I've been away from my blog, as you may have noticed lately. Yes I said I would be back to regular blogging again but a lot has happend in the past couple months, things I won't bore you with.

So, I have been re-branding my products, I am finally happy with my new soap packing which you will start to notice as you buy new products, and getting ready for Christmas. I can't wait til you all see the new products (some are listed on the website already).

New skincare products, new soapies and some accessories and candles. I have been having a whole lot of fun!

Today I went to the Boutique Markets at Portside Wharf in Hamilton, Brisbane and had a fantastic day. Above are some pictures of my table set up, I will need a couple more tables to take with my in December for the Christmas markets!

I have been waiting a little while to show you all this, I am sooooo super excited and REALLY flattered! Our SPACEBALLS soap has been featured in this months issue of HealthSmart magazine (page 16). The September issue just came out today and it was very surreal to see my soap in a big name magazine.

So a massive thankyou to everyone for all your support and lovely comments and also for buying my soap!

End of an Era

This Thursday (in Australia) the last chapter of the Harry Potter films opens. It's hard to imagine its been going for 10 years now. Our whole family are huge HP fans and it's going to be sad to say goodbye.

Anyway, onto business. I love all things HP and wanted to create a soap with a bit of magic.

Butterbeer is a drink for witches and wizards and I wanted a delicious soap made with real beer and scented in a way that I would imagine Butterbeer would taste. I am really happy with the final result, it is limited edition though so once all the bars are sold they won't be made again.

Makeover Madness

I have a few things I want to change in the way of our branding/packaging and products too so to help clear out some room I have drastically reduced the price on almost our entire stock on our website.

New batches of soap have started being made and we have increased the size of them a little to give you even more soapy goodness to last. Oh, and we are going to be adding goatsmilk to almost all of soaps now too yippeee!

You will also begin to notice a small increase in price of soaps over the coming weeks/months. We really needed to do this awhile ago but to be able to keep giving you a great quality (and palm oil free) bar of soap this is necessary. Keep an eye out in your parcels for something special though ;)

Don't forget this sale will end 30th June, but I wouldn't leave it too late in case you miss out on your favourites! I will also be throwing in a few freebies too if your lucky.

Quiet in the house (kids gone to bed), got the ipod going - blaring Lady Gaga in my ears making new soap. This is my idea of work, I love my job!

I got a new fragrance weeks ago, Hugo Boss which I have been waiting for ideas to pop into my head on what to do with it. I also had a new beer going flat in the fridge to use, so tonight I decided to combine the 2. Not What I Meant........

2 reasons for posting this evening. Firstly, is some new soap. When I envisioned this soap it was going to be made in a log mould with gold and green shimmer soap balls embedded on top and sliced into bars. Well, this is what the end result was.... well, I don't really know how it happened to be honest. I had these cupcake moulds sitting next me as I was working ready for another soap that I was going to make tomorrow and somehow my soap batter jumped in! Once I unmould them and show you what they look like out of the moulds I will have thought up a name by then too. Next thing...... We are moving house this weekend, and so will be offline a bit until we are settled in. Any orders made April 1 - 15 will not be processed until Monday 18th April so just keep this in mind. I have posted a reminder on the front page of our website so you forget ;) So I am going to make a promise to you (and myself) that once we are all unpacked and settled that I will begin blogging regularly again. I have been really naughty with neglecting my poor blog. So until then, have a great week and will see you again shortly. Kelly x

Old "Seaside Cotton"

This scent was very popular, it smells so fresh and clean. The fragrance oil I use for this is so good but it's one of the worst ones I have to work with.

It seizes really fast and is almost impossible to get those layers you see, so instead of continuely fighting with the soap-on-a-stick we now have a light swirl of cream and pale blue with just a sprinke of fine shredded white glitter on top.

"Seaside Cotton" has been renamed "WASHING DAY". It will come wrapped in brown paper with twine, a handstamped label with a little wooden peg (just as you see in the photograph above).

I do NOT like the heat, well the humidity actually and today is one of those days where its sticky and the sun burns through you in just a few seconds. So unfortunately I haven't been getting much work done at all lately which is really bad since I had a nice big break from work over Christmas but I really have to get back into it now. So really I haven't been blogging for awhile as I haven't much to show. I did just try to push through the other night and stayed up late in the hope it might be cooler to make soap and this is a sneak peak of what I did.........

Couple of Recent Changes

We have been working on making a few things more accessible for our customers with our shopping cart system and thought we would share them with you here.

We have just added a Gift Certificate section to our webstore. You can now purchase online either $25, $50, $75 or $100 Gift Certificates for a special someone this Christmas. We have also added an option at checkout to have an actual 'paper' certificate sent to the recipient (or yourself) to give them in person. Otherwise it will be sent to their email address.

Oh, and you can also choose a Gift Wrapping Service at checkout too :)

We have also been trying to fine tune our shipping calculations within our shopping cart system and so far it seems to be working ok. Up to 3 items will now automatically be charged $7.50 and anything over this will be charged at our usual rate of $11.50. We are trialling this system between now and New Year so please bare with us if there are any 'glitches'. We hope this will make things run a little smoother as before we have been refunding postage amounts if an order comes in under 500g (to fit into the 500g pre-paid satchels). There are only a very limited amount of products that this will not apply to and we may have to invoice separately if there are any additional postage charges.

Before I go, I have added a new picture of (soon to be) window of soap. Check back this Sunday for some new store photo shots.

We have a selection of our handmade bars of soap cut in half and also half the price.

So many of our customers tell us they can't wait to get through a whole bar of soap in anticipation to try the next scent.

We will change the selection every weeks or so you can try something new next time you visit.

I've been slack in updating the pictures of how the shop looks and infact its actually been changed since we opened last Sunday but unfortunately my camera was somehow damaged in the move. So I will get some good pics asap for you.

Some Important News

It has been a hard decision but ultimately it needed to happen, we are increasing the price of our standard priced bars of soap to from $6 to $6.50 as of 1st November. Any new soaps listed on our website as of today will reflect the new price. It's not all bad though, we are reducing the costs on a few of our other products like our Solid Perfumes are now $5 instead of $6.

In November we will be trialing a new courier service and this will reduce the cost of your postage, saving you money (only to street addresses only no PO Boxes sorry).

We promise to continue providing the best customer service and quality bath and body products you and your family.

It's Official!

Well it is finally official. We are opening our first retail store! Yep, lots of excitement here. For those of you who live in Brisbane we hope to see you all once we open and if you can make if for opening day we have a party planned with specials, freebies and nibblies!

It is only a small shop, but we are taking it on for just 6 months to start with then we plan (and hope) to move to something bigger with facilities to manufacture our products on site.

It is not something I thought would happen for another 2 years but the opportunity arose and we grabbed it with both hands. A dream come true - a soap packed full of handmade soap!

Here is a photo of the shop from the outside looking in. The walls will be painted green and white and we are lucky enough to have a newly tiled floor. I promise to update you very shortly with progress reports and photos of course. Opening date is planned for the last week of this month so we are going to be full steam ahead next week.

The shop is located in Cleveland, which is in Redland City Council about 35 mins SE of Brisbane CBD.

Hippies, Music and Lots of Colour.

This was super fun to create! Using our new Palm Oil Free recipe, in a big slab mould and plenty of colour. "Pyschedelic" is scented with Cannabis Flower and its smells lovely.

Shimmering green fern and cannabis notes unfold to reveal a rich floral accord of violet and gardenia in this fantasy scent. A warm blend of cashmere wood surrounds the floralcy, while sensual undertones of musk and golden amber soften the scent from within.

This is one of the new soaps we will be selling by the 'piece' at the store once it opens next month. You will be able to buy some soap based on weight rather than a standard bar. This way you can buy just a small piece to try out or a really big chunk to last you longer.

We will be having a lot more of this soap style available shortly.

I have had my Nizzy Mould for quite some time now, but haven't fully utilised it as I was scared to do marbling - crazy I know cause I have done 3 batches this week and I am hooked. I will have some pics in the next couple days of the other 2 I have done, but here is the one I did this afternoon - "Heavenly Pear", a shea butter and goatsmilk base scented with brandied pears and lashings of warm vanilla custard.

You probably can't really see in this photo but top yellow/cream swirl actually 24K gold mica and is so shimmery and beautiful.

Soapmaking Goggles from Brambleberry.

Are they not the coolest soap making tool you have ever seen? Ok, so if you're not a soapmaker then you probably think I am nuts, but they are just soooooo totally cute!

Definitely have to get myself a pair. Last year I had a soap making 'incident' where raw soap batter splashed up in my eye (very ouchy), so I am very big on safety and these glasses provide complete protection.

New Packaging

Here is our new soap packaging - biodegradable cellophane bags, labelled and tied with ribbon. Although I know alot of you like the bands we had we came across a few issues with them like getting dirty and ripped from being handled.

We love this new packaging as you can still see what you are getting and they are instantly ready to give as a gift! But best of all, they are environmentally friendly :)

They are now starting to take over my living room as we have hundreds of soaps ready for GDUNH next month. I have had to remove objects off our bookshelf to store them!

I am at a time where I need alot of soap stocked - markets coming up as well as GDUNH next month and I thought I would document a little bit of the soap making process. This is just for those who might be interested in the process or those who want to find out my secrets hehehe - just kidding ;P

Here is a few photos from making Oats, Goats and Honey - one of my favourites. A step-by-step show of how cold-process soap is made.

First I cut the chunks of goat soap to go in the top at the end.

Goatsmilk lye solution - the caustic soda makes the milk turn orange/yellow.

All the oils in the pot - see the little circles? They are cocoa butter - my last delivery of cocoa butter arrived in what looks exactly like white chocolate buttons.

Because I was making the soap AND taking the photos I wasn't able to take photos each step, so what you missed out on was adding the honey and oatmeal then mixing the goatsmilk/lye solution to the oils. Above shows the fragrance being added to soap batter.

This is what is called trace - this trace is quite a heavy trace and looks just like a cake batter. Next it is poured into the mould.

Lastly, those chunks of goat soap are added to soap, then left to set in the mould for 24 hours before cutting.

This is my first soap 'cake'. Made especially for Valentines Day in just 6 weeks. It is a butter cake - shea and cocoa butters - a cocoa vanilla base with a layer of cream in the centre, a delish raspberry top layer finished off with whipped cream frosting.

Todays Soap Porn!

I have been really behind in actually making soap since the weather has been soooo humid and I have been preparing for markets. Did you know that I am doing 4 markets in a 2 1/2week period? WOW!

So today is my last kid-free day until February next year as DS1 finishes prep this week and all 3 kids will be home with me until the end of January so I thought I should take advantage of this and whip up some yummy soaps while I have the chance.

The 2 on the left are Oats, Goats & Honey (with added little chunks of plain Goat Soap), the one second from the right is just plain Goat Soap and the one on the right is some more Down To Earth. I am really loving Down To Earth, its Goat Soap with lots of chunks of natural soap that contain only essential oils, natural colours and/or clays. I can't actually tell you what is in the 'chunks' as they were made by a local lady who owns a shop in Brissie selling natural and organic products. So I bought a little bag of her scraps to throw in my soap and it just smells devine! I will upload these soaps now on the website, I have gotten a bit behind on updating the store with new soaps and I do apologise but I will have more up there over the next couple days.

The first Saturday Markets for December ended up being a bit of a flop. It seems not many people knew that they were running on Saturdays aswell. Oh well, we still made a sales considering the place was like a ghost town so hoping that more people will come this Saturday 12th. We may also be at the Twilight Markets (Chandler again) on the 23rd from 4-9pm so I will let you know as soon as I find out if we are going.
